Biography

Silvio Jesenković entered the scene of visual arts as a photographer, working as a photojournalist for various Croatian newspapers and magazines between 1985 and 1990. During this same period, he also had a number of photographic exhibitions.

Since his true love has always been film, in 1989 he enrolled at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, department for film and television cinematography.

In 1991, Silvio joined the news department of HRT (Croatian National Television) as a camera operator in war-torn areas of the country. A year later, he started freelancing as a camera operator for a number of international news agencies and European broadcasters (Reuters TV, BBC, WTN, DR1, WDR, VOX, and ZDF). Beside news, he also worked on eleven documentary films, all on war themes.

At the beginning of 1993, Silvio attended a seminar at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School for Directors of Photography in Sydney, Australia. From May 1995 until June 1996, he worked as a camera operator for Associated Press Television.

Silvio returned to the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb to complete his degree. The degree thesis was on Lighting for Film and Television and for practicum, he directed and filmed a documentary entitled “Jason”.

Since graduating, Silvio have filmed more than thirty documentary films (some of which he also directed), over thirty commercials and music videos, one short and two feature films as well as a television drama series in five segments.

My approach to every project, I believe, is from a unique perspective combining both proven and contemporary techniques to facilitate the story telling. I have worked on many diverse projects over the years, which has given me the opportunity to hone my skills. Whether the forum is commercials, music videos, documentaries or feature films, I strive to integrate production techniques by honoring and supporting the creative vision of the director.
